Oats are a cereal grain that have been commercially grown for hundreds of years. Aside from human consumption, oats have played an important role as livestock feed because this crop is full of nutrients and is inexpensive. Oats are commonly planted in the spring or early summer and are harvested 50-60 days after planting depending on growing conditions.  Oats are naturally gluten-free, but are subject to cross-contamination risks associated with crop rotation.
